Ralph Yates & Sons was founded in 1845 by Ralph Yates, who moved from Leeds to Malton with less than £5 in his pocket. Ralph Yates set up the Derwent Foundry in Railway Street which in thosedays was known as Water Lane. The Blacksmith and Foundry business quickly grew, and this prompted expansions for the store into agricultural machinery manufacture. In 1895 the current shop was built as a warehouse with space to keep and display all the Iron Moulds until they were required at the foundry.
Based in Thornton Le Dale a beautiful North York Moors village in the National Park on the outskirts of Dalby Forest, Trailside is our self-catering holiday house ideally situated close to some greatriding areas such as Rosedale, Newtondale and of course Dalby Forest with its 50k trail network and World Cup course.

We began life as the Cycle Shop in Usher Lane, Haxby in the late 80's, a small but thriving shop specializing in repairs and accessories. Taken over by Nigel Lawson in February 2005, the business soonbegan to out grow its compact premises. Good luck brought the opportunity to obtain the present shop on York Road and the business was moved in November 2006 to its bright, accessible and cheerful new spot just off the York outer ring road.
